Hailing from Finspång, Sweden, Sweet Teeth has the self-awareness to refer to its sound as "Hüskerrock." There's just no denying that this foursome worships daily at the Church of Bob Mould. But as it turns out, that doesn't have to be a bad thing. If ten thousand bands can make a genre out of emulating the Ramones, why can't we have at least one band turning out the kinds of records that we wished Bob Mould was making in the post-Sugar years of the late '90s and 2000s? As Niek has stated, Sweet Teeth was more or less keeping this particular sound alive prior to Sugar's reunion. I might go as far as to say that the songs on the band's new album The Void That Eats The Heart can stand toe-to-toe with (or maybe even top) Sugar's new tracks. Of course this band has the style down pat. Those massive, fuzzy guitars just blow out of the speakers. And Jocke on drums is an absolute monster. But beyond that, the band has the tunes as well. These guys understand how to write truly excellent punky alternative rock songs that are full of heart and lyrical substance. The passion that this band puts into its music is palpable. I have to admit that the first time I heard Sweet Teeth, I wondered if that really was Bob Mould on vocals (ha ha)! From the first note, the musical inspiration is obvious. But if this is Hüskerrock, it's the gold standard of Hüskerrock. Who cares about originality when the music is this good? This record instantly transports me back to the '90s but sounds absolutely vital in the world of 2026.
